He may not have known him for long, but he was perceptive enough to realize that if the other had the opportunity to talk, he would use that moment to its fullest extent. Orion hummed a couple agreements to the teenager’s assumptions of his old hometown, knowing full well that the boy was going to keep talking either way. He sat, unmoving, listening even if he wasn’t particularly interested. The part of him that knew better was still trying to tell him that this wouldn’t last long—this relationship—but that part of him didn’t know Adonis. And as if the Archer had heard his thoughts, he talked about the different things they could do.

Orion shifted awkwardly, perplexed yet trying to keep that common embarrassment that overtook him so often under control. “A-an adventure?” he repeated cautiously, testing the word out carefully as if it were fragile. His head tilted. The boy’s eagerness wasn’t exactly infectious, but it was getting to him if just a little. It did sound rather nice to get out of the house for a change, and without his parents around either… It wasn’t like he could make his way around Hugel without the assistance of something, and this boy seemed a lot more appreciated than his over-cautious mother, and his father was far too busy with his job in Lighthalzen.

“Uhm, sure, why not?” He finally said, a little surprised with his growing openness with this stranger. Well, he had spent all night regretting his actions on the morning previous, so maybe this was for the sake of his own sleep. He let his shoulder sink into the back of the couch, still facing the other child but relaxing some. He wondered if all the people in Hugel were this friendly—or the children, anyways, if there were any beyond what he could hear from his window.

Mrs. Erebus stepped out from the kitchen, a bright smile on her pale face as she carried two plates with a slice of pie on each out to the two boys. Placing each on the coffee table in front of either of them, she flashed that smile toward Adonis as she began to speak. “Here you go, you two. Send my thanks to your grandmother for me, will you, Adonis?” Not wanting to disrupt any bonding she was hoping was going on between the two, she tucked a few loose strands of green hair behind her ear before shuffling back into the kitchen merrily. Just her hopeful voice had put a sour look on Orion’s face, his cheeks flushing.

So embarrassing!

Deciding it was better to drown out those thoughts, he intentionally reached off to the side on the table so he could drag his fingers across it until they came in contact with the plate. Scooping it up into his hand, he took the fork with his other and let a small piece of pie go into his mouth. The sour look vanished as quickly as it came, surprised with how good the treat was. After it slid down his throat, he spoke in his astonishment without really meaning to.

“Woow… this is good,” he thought aloud, his mind and taste buds automatically comparing it to the subpar cooking of his mother and the boring tastes of the inn, “do you always get to eat this well?”

Chapter Two

An adventure. An adventure? To his “favorite spot,” he said. Yeah right! This was just… was just…

“W-what the HELL is wrong with you!?” Orion yelled between gasps, breathless as the only thing managing to keep him standing was the grip on his wrist. It had all happened fast—too fast—and for a moment the Merchant was questioning his choice of friends as he was being dragged in a run away from the dangerous field. The blind teen had thought something was up when they were walking for much longer than what he had anticipated, but stupidly he had figured that the Archer wouldn’t be reckless enough to bring a blind person anywhere dangerous…

Wrong.

Panting, he finally tore his wrist away from the other boy, his eyebrows knit as he made sure he was facing the other while taking a couple steps backward. “You left me! You dumbass! I’m blind you moron!” He wasn’t in the mood to control the volume of his voice, shouting curses while his left hand was gripping so tightly onto his white stick that his knuckles were turning white. His wide eyes looked near to tears, but the exhaustion and anger that had taken over his face deterred from it. The boy could hardly fathom all the correct words to portray just how upset he was, so instead he just got louder.

“Stupid stupid STUPID—“ Using his cane to beat the stuffing out of Adonis was getting more and more tempting, but first he had to catch his breath; unfortunately yelling wasn’t helping him calm down at all.

Adonis was as out of breath as his partner was—except that Orion’s yells in protest were forcing more stamina out of him. Wiping sweat off his forehead using the end of his sleeve, he was more keen on recollecting his breath instead, thus apparently causing him to tune out part of the other boy’s shocking momentum. It actually did good that the Merchant raised his voice all the more for it did help garner back his attention every time.

Unfortunately, for the green-haired boy, Adonis was pretty amused by their little field-trip-gone-wrong. No one’s hurt—or so he thought. Nothing particularly fatal happened or anything. Granted that something could have happened, but it didn’t. And to the Archer, he had managed to bring Orion to his favourite spot outside of town, they’re both safe (or still in one piece) and that was all that mattered.

“But, I came back for ya!” he retorted—even though that probably didn’t help his reasoning any better than it seemed like it would. He didn’t exactly mean to leave the poor boy behind or anything. Because he had been so used to venturing out on his own, it wouldn’t matter to pause and look back during a hunt. Thank heavens he did and realizing that there was indeed, someone with him this time around, the boy immediately grabbed poor Orion by the wrist and dragged him off with him.

In situations like those, his acting before thinking did come in handy—especially in dire need of escaping.

“Man, that Novus was really mad though. Ya heard the growl, didja? Wonder what’s its problem is,” pondering slightly, he straightened himself some. Violet eyes darted over, observing the poor boy who looked like he was almost to the verge of tears. In the midst of it all, his thoughts weren’t exactly gearing towards comforting the frantic Merchant, but overlooking the whole agenda instead, “That was fun! We totally lost it!” A swift pat to the younger one’s back and he grinned aesthetically, “What’re ya talkin’ about, you’re fine!”

Those were very wrong words put to the test in a very wrong place and time.

Orion grit his teeth. He could hardly believe his ears, even if he knew that this boy was nothing like his original expectations of him. But still! The Merchant would have been seeing red if it were possible. Who would do such a thing? He didn’t know exactly what was going on that short time ago, but he did know it was dangerous, and that something bad was about to happen—well, if Adonis hadn’t of come back to drag him along, anyways.

Angrily he smacked Adonis’ hand aside when he felt the pat, the other’s nonchalant demeanor only adding fuel to the flame.

“I’m not fine!!” the green haired boy barked without thinking. Physically he was fine of course, except for being terribly out of breath, but inside his thoughts and emotions were rattled. Being indoors most of the time had limited his experiences with the world, and even when he was out and having to deal with the spoiled children of Einbroch it was nothing in comparison. True, he had listened to hundreds of stories from travelers during his days at the inn, but hearing and experiencing were two different things. And while he may have wanted to experience it, he was convinced that his handicap would make it impossible.

Or so he had thought. Maybe if he had more time to prepare for it, it wouldn’t have been so bad; or at least that’s what he was telling himself. But for now he was rattled with the shock and fear from those minutes ago, all of which was turning into anger toward who he felt was at fault for the whole ordeal.

“You fucking moron! I’m going home,” heatedly he smacked his cane against the grassy earth beneath them before walking off in at least the direction “home” was at. Granted, the chances he’d make it back without trouble were slim, but at the moment he was too pissed to even be around that Archer dolt.
